Buffalo Rheumatology Associates was founded in 1989 by cousins Dr. Michael W. Grisanti and Dr. Joseph M. Grisanti. Both doctors completed their subspecialty training in rheumatology in July of 1989 and they built the practice from the ground up. They opened their doors for the first time by September 1, 1989. Susan Cane was the sole employee that first year.
The original facility was located at 3065 Southwestern Blvd. with an 1,800 square foot office on the Parkland Professional Park campus. The first expansion occurred in 1992 when the partnership took over an additional 900 square feet at the same location. The expansion enabled Buffalo Rheumatology to offer onsite radiologic services. The practice quickly outgrew their new quarters, so a second expansion took place in 1996. The office expanded to 3,400 square feet and remained at 3065 Southwestern Blvd location. This second expansion created the space necessary for the founding of Buffalo Osteoporosis Institute, a subsidiary of Buffalo Rheumatology that was established in 1996. State-of-art bone density measurements became available for the first time in this expanded facility. Dr. Mary Margaret (Molly) O'Neil joined the group in 1998.
By 1999, the group had again outgrown the confines of their office. The group partnered with Marty Winnert and Joe Epolito in the construction of a new 19,000 square foot building on the Parkland complex. Buffalo Rheumatology Associates now occupies a 7,000 square foot office next door at 3055 Southwestern Blvd in Orchard Park. The new facility opened its doors in February of 2001 and has remained home for Buffalo Rheumatology Associates and its 34 employees ever since. In addition to housing Buffalo Rheumatology, the new facility is home to a state-of-the-art radiology practice, physical therapy as well as other private medical practices.
